Running a Simple Nuclei Scan
June 20, 2025How to Install Nuclei on Kali Linux
Installing Nuclei on Kali Linux is fast and easy. Whether you’re on a fresh VM or your daily driver hacking rig, this guide shows you the quickest way to get it running with templates and ready to scan.
Option 1: Install via Go (recommended)
If you already have Go installed (Kali does by default), just run:
go install -v github.com/projectdiscovery/nuclei/v3/cmd/nuclei@latest
Once done, make sure the Go binary path is added to your system:
export PATH=$PATH:$(go env GOPATH)/bin
Now verify:
nuclei -version
Option 2: Use the Prebuilt Binary
If you don’t want to mess with Go, just grab the binary:
wget https://github.com/projectdiscovery/nuclei/releases/latest/download/nuclei-linux-amd64.zip
unzip nuclei-linux-amd64.zip
chmod +x nuclei
sudo mv nuclei /usr/local/bin/
Done. Now just run:
nuclei -version
Install the Official Templates
To scan for real-world vulnerabilities, you need templates:
nuclei -update-templates
To update later, run:
nuclei -ut
You’re Ready to Scan
That’s it — Nuclei is installed and ready to run scans on targets. In the next article, we’ll walk through your first basic scan, what to expect in the output, and how to interpret matches.
